10 common pitfalls on the road to Open Source in an organization
Because of the low costs associated with Open Source software, people install it easily at home and in their class without too many problems. Also, because Open Source software is lead by many enthousiasts, who communicate their enthousiasm very well, generalizing Open Source at the organization level seems to be a no-brainer.
Problem is that installing a software on a computer isn’t the same thing as make it work in dozens of school on thousands of computers.
Lots of Open Source software initiatives in various places in the education sector lead to a failure, and even backfired by getting proprietary software to replace Open Source.
